How do exhaust leaks affect your diesel emissions system?

Quick Tip #1: How do exhaust leaks affect your diesel emissions system? Leaks allow exhaust pressure and heat to escape the system diminishing the ability of the emission system to push the soot through the DOC, DPF, and finally the SCR. Heat loss will affect the ability of the system to oxidize the soot collected in the DPF. Why is this important? Today’s emission systems are highly engineered to control and process the emissions coming from the engine, leaks upstream of the turbo can cause over fueling which increases the soot produced by the engine, after the turbo, leaks prevent the system from processing the soot. either situation can lead to face plugging, increased forced regens, and more frequent DPF plugging.
